How much milk will I need to leave?

Some advice please. Next weekend I have to leave then 10 week old dd overnight. I am EBF though she happily takes expressed milk from a bottle. So I'm wondering how much I should leave at this age.
Any experiences of leaving doc at this age and what you did would be gratefully appreciated.

Is there any chance you could try one night and see yourself how much your DD takes? I mean express and give her bottles only to get a rough idea? DS at this age was waking for just one feed of 4oz. I was expressing then so I knew what he would take. And then of course leave a bit more, at least one more feed I would say.

Approx 25oz in 24 hours was the rule I used but it'll depend how often your baby wakes in the night. I'd go for 12oz if at all possible, in 3 bags of 4ozs so that whoever a feeding her doesn't waste use all of your preciously-pumped milk but then I used to get cross if even 1oz was wasted!

I know exactly what you mean about our liquid gold.... I have had to count to ten several times over Christmas when I have left some - just in case I was longer than I intended ( while popped out to run an errand ) only to find a four oz bottle had been heated and only one oz taken Angry

I shall pump like crazy this week in order to be covered as I am not ready to start with formula back ups just yet.

Well it's such a faff pumping and trying to fit in with everything else it's bloody annoying if someone comes along and wastes it!!!! And even more annoying that they probably won't "get" why it's so annoying!! I did think about doing bags of 1oz at a time just to be evil Wink

I used to do a little bit each day, the mornings worked best for me. I was always a bit hesitant about cranking the pump up (mini medela) and didn't for months my nips used to turn purple when pumping which I still don't know if that's bad or not but when I was brave enough to it really got going and I could do 5-6oz in about 10-15 mins. Looking at newborn photos of dd helped, as did squeezing my boobs whilst pumping ahh the things us mums do

Smile most mornings I sit with dd on her preferred side and my super industrial strength pump on the other... One day I was rather zealous and super chuffed to have almost filled the bottle ( from only one side) I paid the price though as the next morning I woke up in pain with a very engorged right boob Shock

I now express a small amount each day and have a supply of 2oz bags in freezer. Do wish people would respect how precious this stuff is though!

Anyway thanks for your replies!

Good luck pumping and enjoy your night out. I had the added stress that dd would not take a bottle for love nor money....
