I'd really like to stop breastfeeding but how will I settle my baby in the night?

My baby is 8 months old, I BF exclusively for the first 6 months and then introduced one FF each day and BF for the rest (with solids). I'd love to stop breastfeeding soon - I've really had enough! But it's the only thing which sends her back off to sleep when she wakes in the night (which she still sometimes does) and I'm scared of losing this magic tool. Any tips?

Cold turkey, she'll soon adjust. Sorry I have no better advice.

Watching with interest (for DD, who is 2 Shock)

I stopped at about 8 months with all of mine.

Coincidentally this is also the age at which they started to sleep though the night. Apparently being offered a beaker of formula at 2am is less interesting than BFing!

I thoroughly recommend stopping gradually, cut down to 2 feeds in the night for a couple of nights, then one feed, then none. Just keep strong and cuddle her, rub her back, keep putting her back down to sleep. She'll get the message. Stay calm, and loving, and consistent. Best of luck. X

Cold turkey is not wise at all, as you could make yourself poorly (mastitis from engorgement) and that is the last thing you need when you are trying to settle a baby!

mammainlove has good advice.

Some families find that if Daddy goes in to settle when you are not going to bf, that also helps.
Good luck!
