Breastfeeding and periods

My first baby was mix fed and i gave up breastfeeding totally around 6 months and my periods returned about a month after that I think.

This time around, baby is 9 weeks and EBF and last couple of days I have been feeling extremely PMT-y Confused

Can you still get periods when EBF even if I didn't last time?

First baby was a bad sleeper. This one sleeps for England. I read this can make a difference also.

I like not having periods and PMT Hmm

Longer gaps between feeds can certainly make a difference. However, it's normal for periods to return st any time. Mine came back at 3 months last time, 7 weeks this time. Gutted!!! Grin

Periods can come back anytime.

I think they are less likely to come back when EBF than if formula feeding due to the hormones that go round when you are producing milk but it's not guarantee.

I started the implant at 4 months but hadn't started periods before then and was mix feeding. It's really hard to know what pattern it will follow, if any.

You can take the implant or some pills if you want to stop your periods but don't want to affect the breastmilk supply. Go to your GP or FPC and they should be able to help you.

My DD is nearly 14 weeks and my period started today Xmas Sad . I breastfeed the majority of the time, but she's started sleeping for longer at night so I think that's been the cause of it.
