Aargh I worry about this too but no teeth here yet!
My friend says dc dont generally bite but im not sure as my little fella has a suck like a dyson anyway!

They tend to bite (if they do, they don't always) at the end of a feed when they are fussing about. When they are actually feeding, they can't bite you as their tongue is in the way.

If you start to feel teeth the advice is to pull them into you so that their nose is covered as they then need to let go to breath. Or if you are quick you can break their latch with your finger.

I've only been bitten once or twice, but when my ds was 12 months plus and doing it somewhat deliberately. He never bit me when he was little and his teeth were just coming through. It isn't actually too bad if they do, imho.

At the beginning I said I would stop breast feeding when her teeth came through. She was three and a half when we stopped and had loads of teeth.Grin

To be honest I didn't really think too much about it and she never bit me.

My dd 6mths yesterday must have bitten 10 times while trying to latch her.
Was teething and once all usual teething remedies exhausted tried an ice cube eventually before a feed and worked.
Back to normal again today.
Was afraid to put a boob near her
Yesterday.Shock

Mine has 10 teeth now and has had the odd bite, but its not like a proper hard bite. It's not pleasant but its not something to be overly worried about IME. Having had it happen, I think it makes it less scary. Makes me shout out but no lingering pain or anything.he doesn't do it often and he is a bit of a biter generally.

I said the same about stopping when his teeth came, I don't see this happening tho...ten times :-O ouch, I've read posts about drawing blood etc this is what worries me

DD - 4 months - was born with a tooth and has bitten me a LOT. As exBrighton says it's always when fussing at the end of a feed and I don't always catch her in time. It hurts but it's sharp and quick. I'm not keen but it's not bad enough to make me want to give up bf.

Shitballs · 27/12/2013 18:56

I've been bitten a few times, mostly at the end if a feed or when teething.

DS has 16 teeth now. The amount of people that are Shock when they see his almost full set but its fine.

diamondsrforever · 27/12/2013 19:51

I'm hoping it's one of those things that just cause more worry than necessary :-/ fingers crossed x

I'm another on the list of 'stopping when they get teeth' but DD is 8 months old with 3 teeth so far and has bitten couple of times (again while teething and again at the end of the feed) I break her latch as soon as I feel it change and she soon stops when she realises I'm not happy, also as has been said above teeth aren't near the breast when they're latched on for a feed.
