I am currently in the process of switching from BF-ing to FF after just one week as DD2 had lost 11% of birth weight on day 5 and was static at that weight by day 7, with jaundice so we had to be readmitted to hospital yesterday (but thankfully we were out the same day after blood tests came back OK).
This first week has been pretty much a deja vu experience of the early days with DD1 1 when I managed 3 weeks sole bf-ing with DD1 before topping up, but in that time I went through 3 weeks of heartache until switching to FF and I am conscious I don't want to be in the same position (in terms of mental health) this time, so I want to make the switch sooner rather than too late - DD1 asked me this morning "are you going to cry today Mummy" and I just don't want her to see me getting upset.
So this time I had planned a gradual retreat from bf-ing entirely, and I I was going to gradually drop feeds. However, DD2 has today decided that she is clearly not at all interested in my boobs and just wants the bottle so I am wondering what I should do now!
I don't know if this means I should just go cold turkey and stop altogether?! Will my boobs just deflate of their own accord?? Or should I artificially keep up with a few feeds a day using a pump? I'm not sure if anyone has advice on this so I don't end up with boob problems? I haven't had mastitis, and so far my breasts are currently pouring milk at any opportunity (soaking through lots of breast pads), but not actually as rock solid as they have been while actually feeding. They are quite sore but not horrifically painful.
Can anyone tell me what to do?!
