Blep!

ARGH! another obstacle in my road to breast feeding.

Been getting a hard lump inside left boob that won't shift after feedings, been doing lots of massaging. Now I have a white dot on the end of my nipple that feels dry. Wondering if it's a blep- but i'm been prodding it and I think milk is coming out of it, but the whites not going away.

Is it a blep? Anyone have advice for shifting it. Won't be able to get to doctors till after newyear as travelling. Really don't want to end up with mastitis or something nasty like that :(

It sounds like it could be a bleb. I've had a couple of these at various points, and I dealt with them myself - however I would hesitate to recommend my approach as it is a bit um unorthodox... I would remove the blockage with a sterilised needle but obviously you have to be extremely careful. You can also sometimes pick the blockage out with a clean fingernail after a hot shower.

I felt it was worth dealing with myself as the blockage can cause blocked ducts and potentially mastitis.

Yup I did that too, but after a hot bath.
Had a good old squish & manual expressing in the bath after warmed up (ie face looked like a lobster)
Some wiggly lines came out- yoghurt??? Then used a sterilised needle for the one that wouldn't shift. Mostly came out & next bf shifted it.

Hot bath each night until all gone.

do you stick the needle straight into the boob? I've just been scratching at the surface where it's hard and white. Been kneading my boob and milk is coming out of the hard white place, but it's not going away.

Does the blockage stick out to be picked out?

After a hot shower and a bit of manual expressing it can stick out a bit when squeezed. I have had to gently pierce the white area as there was a thin layer of skin over it. Once pierced I could squeeze the blockage out.
