Breastfeeding my older baby is painful - what's going on?

I'm still breastfeeding my 14 mo dd. Every few weeks my right nipple becomes extremely painful for several days. I'm not sure if it's just her teeth catching on it as she feeds (it only began after her top teeth appeared) or if it's a blocked duck/milk blister, or both. There is always at least one very tender area where the skin is broken/raw but this time there is also a white dot, in a different place on the nipple. I have tried warm compresses and despite the pain I have fed her a much as I normally would.

I don't want to stop breastfeeding anytime soon but, when it's like this, I dread feeding her, which is really sad. My main worry is that her latch may not be great and this is why, now she has (quite big!) teeth it has become a problem which, given how far along we are, may be very difficult to rectify.

I've researched mastitis and I don't think it's that as I'm not feelinh unwell. I've also tried repositioning her but this in itself is painful.

Does anyone have any advice or experience? Thanks

Hmm, the white dot could be a blocked milk duct (a bleb). Or it could possibly be thrush? Does your DD have any white spots in her mouth?

A blocked milk duct could be caused by a change in latch, possibly due to teeth.

Thanks you for replying.

The white bleb has gone now but there are still puncture marks just above and below the centre of my right nipple. Her latch does go a bit rubbish every now and again so I suspect it's teething issues.

'Luckily' she went on a short nursing strike for most of yesterday so I pumped and fed her ebm. I think that helped the healing a bit as it's not as bad today.
