Why is ds sick at my dps?

Ds is 5 months. For various reasons we've spent lots of long stretches at my parents. We stayed at their house in Portugal for 4 weeks when he was 6 weeks and with them in England between 3 and 4 months. We're staying with them now for Christmas. We've been here since Saturday.

I've just noticed that he's sick a lot more when we stay here (as in a few times a day quite a lot of sick). At home he's barely sick at all just a little bit of spit up. It's mostly the smelly type that's a while after feeding (sort of cottage cheesy in clear fluid sorry tmi) rather than just bringing up excess.

They have 2 dogs. Could it be this? He's ebf so can't be water. I tend to eat larger meals here and more meat so it could be that but I've never noticed it after eating meat at home. Other than that I can't think of anything I eat significantly more of (dairy etc).

He's been diagnosed with reflux and is on gaviscon but I'm unconvinced as he's generally very happy, seldom cries etc (although when he does cry it's almost always during a feed).

Other than that he's quite settled and sleeps well here. Any ideas?

A pet allergy sounds possible. Maybe it's perfume or room freshener? Do you take his normal bedding or are you using their bedlinen? Or is there air con, do they have ceiling fans, could it be dust? (Not implying your parents are living in less than pristine conditions, just if it's warm it could be a different environment DS isn't used to).

It's 2 separate houses. One in Portugal and one in England so I don't think it's anything to do with the house. We bring his crib and bedding so not that and my mum uses the same detergent and conditioner as us.

Must be the dogs or something I'm eating I suppose.

Are they a sneaking him food?

TheGreatHunt · 24/12/2013 14:10

Yes are they sneaking him food?

cogitosum · 24/12/2013 14:14

No my parents are amazing. Fully supportive of Breastfeeding and know I'm doing blw at 6 months. My mum says she wishes she'd had the confidence to go against hv and Breastfeed for longer etc

Also the sick is just slightly curdled milk in clear fluid. I'm guessing food would make it different.

It could be coincidence, or that you do something differently when you're there but don't realise eg his medication - do you keep on top of it?

It sounds like the sort of sick my dd/ds had with their silent reflux.

Does your mum use different ingredients for cooking?

cogitosum · 24/12/2013 14:48

I don't think it's coincidence as it's 3 times now and it happens after the first night of being here. I'm good at giving him the medication here as I get help.

After saying he's settled he just screamed the whole way through a feed. I think it is reflux but something here is causing it.

In terms of food here it's more meat, veg and potatoes whereas at home I'll have something like pizza, pasta or risotto or curry and rice. I do eat meat but it's not the main part of the meal iyswim whereas here it is.

Beef by any chance? Gravy with soya in - check ingredients if not 100% home made.

cogitosum · 24/12/2013 16:05

Not homemade. My dad will only eat bisto! Thanks I'll check ingredients.

I suspect that is your answer - my two were intolerant to dairy and soya. Soya is in bisto - I couldn't eat it or anything with soya while BF my two.

Just wanted to come back and say thank you as I think thegreathunt has it! I didn't have any gravey over Christmas Sad and he wasn't sick then last night had it with turkey pie (just to test) and he was sick today.
