Expressing & supply

Hi,

I've been planning to leave my 6wo with my MIL for a few hours tomorrow while I get prepped for Xmas dinner (stupidly agreed to host!) so I've expressed two 3 ounce feeds over the last couple of days. I was also thinking she could do a feed on Xmas day too (more because she really wants to than any real need & I'm keen to start him getting used to a bottle just in case). Today I've really noticed my boobs responding to the extra demand - they're so full! I'm worried, now that I've increased my supply it'll be really uncomfortable to skip a feed when MIL feeds him with the expressed milk.

Also, I'm worried that skipping feeds when using the expressed milk will cause then my supply to drop. Is this likely or does it take longer than one feed a day for 2 days to make a difference?

They'll stay in the house so I'll be near if any problems.

Thanks!

Skipping the occassional fed won't do you too much harm if BF is well established (and even if it does, it doesn't take too long to fix any problems, as you've discovered pumping clearly boosts your supply)

a word of warning though- my OH and I went out for a christmas dinner and left DD with her gran. I thought I'd get a proper nights sleep so persaded granny to do the night feed and early morning feed with some EBM. I didn't manage to get a long lie though, cos my boobs woke me up at 7am. I thought they were going to explode! I just expressed off a tiny bit though and felt much better, it was still far quicker than giving DD a feed.

Enjoy hosting christmas :)

Thank you, that really helps. I hadn't thought of expressing a little if it's too uncomfortable! If this is a success thinking of getting OH to do a night with EBM so thanks for the warning :)
