My boobs are killing me. Is this normal? I'm worried he's not getting enough milk and my boobs are killing me Confused

My DS fed for that long, my DD usually only fed for an hour (they are twins though so I was pretty much always feeding someone)..

I sympathise re the sore boobs though.

The amount your baby is feeding and how sore your boobs are will settle down in time.

Keep up the good work.

Oh meant to say lansinoh is fab stuff if you don't aleeady have some. I also had some cooling gel pads to pop in my bra which were very helpful.

DaleyBump · 23/12/2013 00:16

They're so sore I said it twice! He never usually feeds this long. Thanks for the sympathy Xmas Wink

It is normal, please don't panic and think he isn't getting enough. :)

It even has a name, it is called cluster feeding, and your baby is doing it because they are having a growth spurt. So they feed, feed, feed to send your body the signal to produce more milk and in a day or two it will have got the message and things will settle down again.

Lansinoh is great and should help, and make sure that you get a good latch each time - maybe try a different hold to vary the angle of 'attack'?

When you get a chance, have a look at the kellymom.com website, it has some really good info.

He's most likely doing it to up your supply. Your body will make more milk, he'll get more efficient at drinking it too, it won't be like this forever, it gets much easier!

How are your boobs hurting? Is it thf nipple itself? Do you think maybe his latch needs checking and adjusting?

Do you know about holding you me baby with his tummy flat to yours? (to get a good position)

DaleyBump · 23/12/2013 00:23

That's brilliant, thank you. I'll have a look :) excuse me while I prop my eyes open with matchsticks, it seems I'll be here a while!

Not my nipples really, his latch is fine. I just have a kind of bruisey feeling since he's been on so long Xmas Hmm

Nothing new to add really just:
Yep, that's cluster feeding, which nobody tells you about before it happens (with DS1 I thought my boobs were broke when he started doing it!)
Kellymom is a really good website - helped me out loads.
Lansinoh is great stuff!

Three weeks is another growth spurt. You've already had great advice, but I would add, it was easier for me to cope with when I just gave in to it, and set up camp on the sofa, demanding drinks and snacks from DH at regular intervals. Grin
Also, you're allowed to take them off to go to the loo, even if they don't like it!

DaleyBump · 23/12/2013 00:37

Fantastic, he's just sicked on my boob. Bugger bugger bugger. Thanks for all the advice :)
