Any chance the 2 could be linked!? Ds2 is 18 weeks and my hair suddenly seems to be falling out loads Shock filling the brush everytime I brush it!!

It's standard to lose lots of hair after pregnancy. Basically you don't lose much hair during pregnancy (hence why pg women are supposed to have glowing locks) but then you make up for it after pg by losing loads at once. Sounds like your pg hormones are wearing off.

Isn't it just normal postpartum hair loss? It could be delayed because of the bf. You're supposed to "lose" all the hair you "gained" during pregnancy.

I think it's just a postpartum thing, regardless of feeding method - every new mother I know has gone through a moulting phase!

milktraylady · 18/12/2013 15:10

Oh yes it's normal, but scary!
The loss does slow down to normal levels. I was really scared it wouldn't stop & I would be bald. But no!
Don't worry Grin

Completely normal after pregnancy and birth. EBF might even have delayed it by keeping your oestrogen levels lower for longer.

gamerchick · 18/12/2013 17:55

It's normal and the most irritating thing about having babies. Everywhere I sat I left a Pile of hair Angry it passes thankfully.

lolalotta · 18/12/2013 18:09

My baby is 16 weeks, EBF, mines been coming out the past week or so too! Hmm

diamondsrforever · 18/12/2013 18:45

I'm 18 weeks pp losing hair all over the place and freaking out! Hope it passes very soon. Don't think bf affects the amount of hair you lose but have heard that sometimes it doesn't happen until after you stop bf.

islingtongirl · 19/12/2013 10:58

I'm 16 weeks pp and same happening here too! Normal apparently but not enjoyable seeing it flowing down the plug hole in the shower!

soupmaker · 19/12/2013 13:07

Oh yes. This is a right pain. I am shedding all over the place. I have to clean out the shower every day due to the mass of hair. It had been bliss having about 9 months of no hair loss but we are back to normal service. DD2 is 20 weeks and I've been losing for at least a fortnight. Not good when you wear a lot of dark clothes and have grey hair!

Christelle2207 · 19/12/2013 18:55

Anyone know how long it goes on for ? Mine has been shedding for a couple of months but the past 3/4 weeks at quite an alarming rate. Hair very thin in places alreadyHmm

Smartiepants79 · 19/12/2013 18:58

Mine started falling out a around 4/5 months and was still going about 5 months later. Seemed to be coming out in vast quantities but not sure it was as bad as I thought. I had quite a bit cut off and it looked and felt so much better.

DorothyBastard · 19/12/2013 19:04

I lost loads for weeks starting when DD was 16 weeks old. Then, when she was around 6/7 months (I think), I noticed new hair growing all over my head, noticeable along my parting and at the nape of my neck. DD is 9.5 months now and the new hair is about 2 inches long (my hair is shoulder length). It still looks a bit weird but I'm really pleased as I could do with a few more strands to get a bit of volume!

LeafyGreen13 · 19/12/2013 19:08

My due date is in a few days. I'm wondering if I should get a cut and colour now or wait until the end of the holidays. Hair loss was awful after DD.

catellington · 19/12/2013 23:03

Completely normal not related to bf, mine started falling out at 4 m and went on for a couple of months, now back to normal and am not bald !

SharonCurley · 19/12/2013 23:12

Ebf too and mine was very bad.Seemed to start at about four or five months snd at seven and s half slowed down. There was hair all over my pillow ,the shower, everywhere.I can see all the new little spiky hairs starting to grow now though so at least it's coming back!Hard to style it though!

diamondsrforever · 20/12/2013 15:09

So happy it's not just me also quite concerned il be bald if it lasts a few more months haha Smile

Nope, I have just started to introduce formula to my 22 week old but my hair has been falling out for at least the last 5 weeks, same with my first daughter. The dyson is struggling, as is the shower, and I keep finding bits everywhere. Worst is it is really tangly with all the bits that are falling out so I keep pulling huge knots out! Hair cut on Monday though, first in absolutely months!

Jo1984uk · 22/12/2013 09:41

My hair loss settled down when my dd was around 6 months.. I lost the hair on my arms and legs when she was around 3 months and by 5 months had a few bold patches on my hairline at the front. Now (dd is 8 months) I have hair growth (on my head!) which is about an inch long and I have hair on my arms and legs again!

Glad I found this thread as I have just had a fringe cut in to cover my very thin hair around my hair line.

My hair falls out so much that ds1 keeps finding strands of it and handing it back to me Grin
