Newborn not feeding....?

Hi ladies x I gave birth to my second dd on Saturday morning and she weighed in at 10lb and a quarter....I'm a little concerned as she hasnt really fed at all since I had her? She was born at 2.20am fed for a very short period of time and slept from about half 4am all the way through till about 1am the following morning when she eventually latched on for a slight feed again. My milk hasn't come in yet and the midwife yesterday (Sunday) said I should try waking her up every 2-3hrs for a feed even if its just a bit on a teaspoon. She fed briefly at 10am then for a good 40mins at 2pm then I tried again at 6pm but she just wasn't interested so I kept giving dribbles on a spoon. She was wide awake at 10pm and fed till about 10.40pm and then was sick about 1am. Sorry to waffle on but I'm just concerned that I won't be able to breast feed and that there is a problem? I managed with my first for over a year was hoping it wouldn't be a problem second time round. She just seems to want to sleep?

Thank you for any advice/info xx

Did you have pethidine in labour - it can make babies sleepy for a while.
Is she weeing and pooing? How is her fontanelle?

Keep offering her a feed every time she stirs - it sounds like she might have managed more than you thought.

Maybe talk to your MW again tomorrow (although I'm not sure why she suggested a spoon rather than your breast?) if you are still worried.

I didn't have any drugs during labour and only gas and air while getting stitches? She's had two poo nappies the first was horrific lol and they have been wet too the mw said her fontanelle was perfect too? She suggested expressing onto a spoon if she wouldn't take the breast just to get something in her but its only wee drops? It's quite sore when she latches on I just hope she getting something and hopefully my milk will come in soon?x

If she is having wet nappies and been able to find enough to be sick 2 hours after a feed, I'd stick with whatever you are doing as it is obviousky working for tonight.

And I should have said before - Congratulations to the both of you Thanks.

poppy, sounds like the mw is on your case and is supporting your bf with some good suggestions - it's worthwhile speaking to her again for reassurance even if she is unable to visit you.
