Panic re formula feeding

Please can someone give me some reassurance. I have a 7 week old who was combination fed for 6 weeks and is now just bottle fed. I have been doing the method of half boiled water, adding the formula, mixing then adding cooled boiled water.

It has only just dawned on me that I should have been premeasuring the cooled water rather than just topping up the boiled water to the required amount (as the formula will obviously affect the amount of liquid). I am panicking that I have harmed my baby. I will go course do it properly now but can anyone just reassure me that he'll be okay?

You will drive yourself mad if you keep worrying about something that is done, your baby is absolutely fine, just do it correctly from now on. Enjoy your baby and stop worrying!

He will be fine, all that will happen is it will be more concentrated which might make him a little constipated. Don't worry, you know now.

Is he ok? Well then...

You could make one bottle the "right" way and see where the overall formula+water level comes to (for an 8oz feed, it used to be around 9 oz iyswim), then carry on doing your method just with a bit more water.

Thanks for your replies. I was having a massive panic. He seems absolutely fine - I just feel like a bad mum (and a bit stupid!).

You are not a bad mum, you are a new mum and its a steep learning curve. A bad mum wouldn't be worried or motivated enough to post on here asking for advice.

Just in case you haven't come across it before, here is the nhs advice on ff, the guidelines for making up bottles is on the top right Smile
