Expressing advice

In currently expressing from one side after each feed to make sure my breast is empty and therefore not getting much out at a time. Is it ok to leave the milk in the expresser bottle & just top it up next time? (As long as I don't leave it out of the fridge for longer than 6 hours)

A HV told me not to mix milk of different temperatures - but she was referring to mixing cold milk from the fridge & milk that had either just been expressed or was at room temperature.

So in this case, it would be room temp milk mixing with warm expressed milk.

Thanks

That should be fine. I would just put a top on the bottle until you're ready to express again, and make sure that it's not out for more than 6 hours maximum - as long as your house isn't too warm!
Your hv is right to advise you not to add warm freshly expressed milk to milk that has been refrigerated.

The breastfeeding network says freshly expressed breastmilk can keep for up to 6 hours at room temperature.

But I think you would have to use it at the end of that 6 hours, I wouldn't then put it in the fridge and bring it out later.

If it was me I would express into a new bottle each time and put it in the fridge. Then I'd mix them together once they were all at fridge temperature. Just me though.

Thanks both. Makes perfect sense.
