Hey all, my newbie is 9 days old, after a week of exclusively bf I decided to try and give a bottle at nite so she would settle longer and I would gain some much needed sanity back. It helped. However last nite, she would have bottle, posset a tiny bit, not really settle too well and show signs of hunger at about an hour and half to 2 hours later. So I result to on the boob and then she settled after 20 mins or so of that. What's that about? So hard to know if what ur doin is rite or wrong!

Maybe the formula is making her bit windy? It's a lot harder on the tummy than breast milk.

Hotmad, life is definitelty hard with a newborn, and mothers definitely need help and love and care, and the chance to rest.

Formula can sometimes appear to help with the settling, but often this effect is not sustainable....it can be hard work to feed the formula and because formula is harder to digest than breastmilk, it does not settle the baby well. It ends up being pointless, in terms of the original aim which was to keep the baby settled.

Honestly, it can be easier to accept that this is what your new little one is like at the moment, just because she is at this stage, than to mess about with formula trying to change her normal pattern.

If you want to try formula as well later, then of course you can....but at the moment, it doesn't sound like it's going to help at all.

Are there ways you can get help and hand someone to the baby while you rest? Sometimes, newborns will sleep in someone else's arms for a couple of hours.
