I am trying to switch dd from boob to bottle. Weaning is going fine. She's happily taking water from a doidy cup. I use cows milk in her food.

She plainly doesn't like formula. She spits it. Rolls it bites it but really fights against actually drinking it. She's been reflux since birth. It's improved vastly but still occurs.

Am I being silly to try whole cows milk instead of formula as a drink in bottle or doidy? I've been waiting for a year but I'm fed up. Really really fed right up bfing still. I've stopped enjoying it, it's more nuisance than pleasure. I don't know enough about this being a year before milk though to judge.....

And how many bottles should be on?

Yes I would try it, its only a month off a year away!

Yeah that's why I feel guilty! Thanks for saying it's ok and not jumping down my neck. I'd wait I suppose if felt reason for the year thing was big enough but now I'm so close it seems more arbitrary. I'll try tonight.

Do you know how many bottles a day a year old should have?

I think it depends on the child but I was told about two bottles by 12 months. Mine had two bottles a day from about 11 months, she's 14 months and still on two, she eats three good sized meals aswell though, so I guess they may need more if they don't eat much. I think BF babies feed more though still, at night

Maybe it's the bottle she's objecting to? At that age, if she's happy with a cup for water, I'd try to encourage a cup for milk too. The Tommee Tippee ones with lids (freeflow ones) are a bit less messy than doidy if that helps.

Around 350ml of milk a day from 12 months - that includes milk on cereal etc. I would aim for that for a month from now and work towards it gradually- so she won't be replacing significant amounts of breastmilk with cow's milk until she's very close to one.

You should also supplement with vitamin drops up to the age of 5 if not giving formula NHS advice here.

Thanks. I have bought a time tippee one wondering similar. Be good if she did drop it as dd1 refuses to give a 4pm one up when she's tired because baby is offered one when she's tired.... Can't always stand the tantrums. Thanks a lot. I'll follow the advice.

Part of the reason I want to stop bf is I'm not sure she needs the milk now at night I'm just doing what I've done for last months and I think it needs altering.
