I already know its going to hurt, but if I express while ive got breast thrush will it compromise the breast pump? Or will it be ok once sterilised? In a bid to save our sanity OH has organised a babysitter for tomorrow and id like to leave breast milk rather than formula if I can.

It should be ok once sterilised. The milk you express will have thrush in it though, so must be given now, rather than after you and the baby are clear.

Are you absolutely sure it is thrush rather than anything else? Thrush is a real pain to diagnose.

Thanks Notquite - the doc & hv both say it is, and two weeks of fluconazole almost shifted it, finished the tablets and it came back with a vengeance, so I'm pretty sure it is. My worry about the pump is that a friend lent it to me so I don't want to contaminate it if sterilisation wont shift it. The milk would be given to my DD the same day it was pumped.

Ah, well, sterilising it will shift it. I think only prions can survive sterilising.

Jack Newman is v good on thrush.
