My 13 month old DS is still breastfed morning and night (and days off!) He was fed to sleep and we wanted to stop that so now my DP does the nighttime routine which is a nice break for me! crucially, he needs cuddled and put down almost sleeping, not awake which I know is potentially one bad habit to another!

He wakes about 11/12pm and my partner can settle him with a drink of water and some shushing. He wakes again at about 4am and whatever my DP does, cannot settle him, he will just keep crying. As we are both working, the easiest option is just to give him the boob so we can all go back to sleep!

I didn't mind doing this because I felt that initially, because we had stopped the nighttime feelings that he was just genuinely hungry.

Tonight my DP is out so I have tried to give DS the water but he just wriggled and cried for the boob, and I relented Sad. he has now woken twice since then crying and I want him to learn to settle himself. It's so hard because I can't let him cry it out but every time I go to try to shush him, he cries harder and I lift him and end up feeding him again! Help!

Oh its hard when u r so knackered and craving sleep to not feed them??!!

Jay Gordon changing sleep patterns in family bed is interesting article about getting babies to sleep all night.

Some people find that 4/5 am feed is a nice cuddle and back to sleep until a bit older if u can get him to sleep till then.. but then some wake up anyway, bf or not?!

Try and nap if u can, might help u think when so exhausted?!
