DS is 10 weeks and i'm still bfing him on demand. Is this ok or should we have more of a routine by now?

good job mandymoo

sounds just fine

hairymclary · 13/07/2006 20:50

sounds absolutely normal and fine and any other good things you can think to say about it

SecurMummy · 13/07/2006 20:50

mandymoo, my children were all bf on demand all the way through, they set up a routine when they were ready and it fitted in with their needs.

Sounds like you are doing great - keep it up!

Mandymoo · 13/07/2006 20:52

Phew! I'm quite happy feeding on demand just overheard a mum at playgroup today talking about how good a routine they have with breastfeeding etc and how her dd now feeds every 4 hours. Was worried i was doing it all wrong!

IMO Nope! horses for courses and all that - if you and bub are happy then that is all that matters!

WigWamBam · 13/07/2006 20:55

It's fine ... I think dd was about 4 months old before we got into any kind of real routine with feeding - maybe even 5 months. And even then it was every couple of hours. The four-hourly feeding came much later.

Go with what your instincts tell you - you're doing a grand job.

I am still feeding on demand at 20 weeks - he has found his own routine now though if that makes sense?

munz · 13/07/2006 20:59

same as CFS here demand feeding but it's roughly every 2.5 to 3 hours. 4 at night if i'm lucky.

Mandymoo, good for you. It's much better for him to be able to feed when he is hungry and not when the clock dictates. Also excellent for your supply and for your health, and will delay return of your periods too.

I fed ds on demand until he was nearly 2. It has great benefits if you can stick it.
