I've stopped BF but now have pain and lumps.

I stopped BF 10 days ago. It was a bit uncomfortable for a couple of days (pretty much went cold turkey from am & pm feeds) and then was fine but in the last 2 days have had a painful breast lump. Is this a common breast reaction? How long does it take to get back to 'normal breasts' again?

Hi - I stopped bf three weeks ago and whilst I did cut down over the first week it did take quite a while for all of the milk to go and I did get one or two painful lumps so I squeezed out the milk in the shower and it gradually got better. Not sure if this is the same as yours but hope it helps

You may have a blocked duct, rub it and massage it and maybe express a little to release and it should be ok.

Thanks, have done that this morning and it has helped a lot.
Do you know how how long it takes for the milk to 'dry up'?

I think it varies vastly from person to person. My ds is having a morning and evening feed but I think I could stop that in a day and my boobs wouldn't notice! But others leak for ages, I've read on here about women going to the doc to get a tablet that helps them stop producing- I guess if you leak bad there could ba a hormone that could slow that down. If you are leaking at the moment and as you say perhaps a wee bit engorged it could take a while but you'll probably notice your boobs giving up with making the stuff if it's not getting used! I would suggest you only massage and express to reieve discomfort and engorgement and preventing mastitis (really watch out for that, you may get a red area where the lump is) and if you can avoid expressing this will hault your production . HTH.
