How many times should a 8 month old breastfeed?
He's having about three meals a day. But I'm worried I'm not giving him enough.
Little man feeds two or three times a night. Then earlier morning lunch time then evening.

Ds2 is 7.5 months and on the days I'm at work is bf at about 6am, 5.30pm, 7pm and a couple of times during the night. Dh also gives him a bottle of formula during the day but he doesn't drink much of it (tried giving him formula twice but he's not interested).

So, 6 times in 24hrs roughly (counting the formula). They're fairly short feeds too.

Dd was having about 6 feeds at this age too: 1st thing, late morning/lunchtime, mid-afternoon, bedtime and dream-feed. At 8 months they are only just starting to drop feeds really.

About every 2 hours in the day. If you want to start reducing feeds at night, I'd try increasing the number of daytime feeds.

My 8 month old is on 3 meals & feeds morning, after his afternoon nap and bedtime then a dream feed. He also feeds twice during the night but the hv said to stop that - easier said than done :)

Perhaps your HV would like to come and stay for a few night and show you how it's done Smile

Lol!

Thank you for replies. I added another couple of milk feeds in the day thinking little one would drop a feed through the night. But it seems to of worked the other way. He's had more feeds through the night. But I do think he might be teething.

Is Lo nearly 9 months by any chance! There's a sleep regression at 9. Months, and you are right, teething won't help...

Little man is 8 months and 1 week. Grin

Sorry don't know where the explanation mark came from. Ok so it may not be the 9 month sleep regression, but at least now you've got something to look forward too Grin

What have you tried for the teething?

littlewind · 23/11/2013 21:10

I tried a few gels to start with that didn't work. Then tried some homeopathic stuff, but that didn't work. So haven't really got anything that has worked a part from calpol when little man gets it really bad.

If he has teething pain, ibruprofen is much better than paracetamol, that's if he needs it of course.

In the day try a frozen banana, chunks of cook cucumber to chew on, a cold clean wet flannel to chew on or homemade lollies Smile

Thank you. I'll give them a try.
