Are you bf?

PoppyWearer · 18/11/2013 17:39

Savoy cabbage leaves (must be Savoy) the colder the better.

This Oscar + Dehn Breast Nurse cold pack is brilliant too. Boots sometimes sell them, IIRC, or Mothercare.

Madamecastafiore · 18/11/2013 17:41

Yes am feeding lovely dd but not making much difference.

Do I do cold stuff and not warm to try and ease the pain?

Have you tried a bit of hand expressing in a hot shower to get some relief?

DoItTooJulia · 18/11/2013 17:45

I only ask because if you were ff, you wouldn't want to express to relive it as it would only prolonged the agony!

The very best thing to do is feed feed feed. If they are still bothering you a hot shower and some gentle hand expressing will help, but don't over do it, as it will just make you produce more. Taking the edge off with a touch of hand expressing should be ok though.

Congratulations on you dd! Enjoy! Hope the boobs settle soon!

DoItTooJulia · 18/11/2013 17:46

X post soup. Great minds!!

BoffinMum · 18/11/2013 17:48

I used to get this. Borrow a pump and take just enough to stop the agony, or get the baby to oblige.

NomDeClavier · 18/11/2013 17:54

I agree with hand expressing just a little and cold Savoy cabbage leaves. Also a disposable nappy filled with water and used as a compress is brilliant.

Madamecastafiore · 18/11/2013 17:56

Thanks guys. Just been in the bath trying to massage and some came out but still hurting sooo much.

Going for cold nappy next!

Am just sitting here on the loo dripping milk onto towel. Hmm

Lie on your tummy in a warm bath and just let it run :) gravity does its job quite well once it gets going, gentle massage with cream or soap if you have lumpy areas works a treat.

GandalfsPointyHat · 18/11/2013 17:59

X posts Sorry the bath didn't help you, cabbage leaves? Could you ask your local maternity ward for a loan breastpump just to get rid of the worst?

Northumberlandlass · 18/11/2013 18:00

As above - chilled savoy cabbage leaves, put them inside your bra covering your whole boob! It's vegetable magic Smile

Madamecastafiore · 18/11/2013 18:20

Have sent DH to get some Savoy cabbage. He offered up the baby cabbages we had in the fridge and I wanted to hit him.

Trying to express with machine and it so hurts.

Got lumps up onto non booby part of chest now!!

Waiting for breast feeding nurse to ring me and going to do the nappies!

Boohoo.

Sorry you all giving me wonderful ideas and I am moaning!! Feeling bloody sorry for myself.

Anyone got hungry baby in north east essex chip them round will you. Going to prod dd and try and get her to feed again!

Congrats on your lovely DD! I remember this part well ; I woke up one morning and I'd turned into Katie Price!! Grin.

The cabbages definitely worked well, and it doesn't last for too long...good luck!

Northumberlandlass · 18/11/2013 18:26

Madame, i feel your pain! DS couldn't latch on mine were so sore & i was crying with pain.

Midwives were awesome, massaged my boobs to release milk & then got me cabbages! The heat of my boobs wilted them pretty quickly but i kept replacing them. It's marvellous!

Hope it works as well for you. Let us know how it goes x

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 18/11/2013 18:28

Cabbage leaves in the freezer, then warm shower if you can cope with the water hitting them. And try the expressing again.
I had this as my boobs went up to a kk cup from a gg when my milk came in and ds couldn't keep up. It takes a couple of days to calm down totally.
The expressing did wonders for me but was agony.

2blessed · 18/11/2013 21:06

I remember this well. My boobs were huge at time of first midwife visit. They suggested hot flannel over boob for a few minutes then gentle massage before hand expressing.
Hope you get some relief soon.

Madamecastafiore · 18/11/2013 21:27

Thanks chaps.

Am sitting watching university challenge smelling particularly cabbagey but my god is it doing the job!!

Will have hot shower before bed and then replace cabbage leaves before bed.

Specialist breast feeding nurse phoning in morning and said if still bad will visit (bloody good service round here!). May have to rub boobs with bicarb to rid them of stink!!

Thank you sincerely though, the pain was chuffing terrible!

Pleased they are helping!

May09Bump · 18/11/2013 21:46

Maybe savoy cabbage in the fridge should be put on the hospital bag list (but obviously left at home) as a preemptive measure!

Glad your feeling better!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 18/11/2013 23:30

Yeah our whole house stunk of cabbages but it totally works. Glad you are feeling better, hard work this mum business, but you don't hold grudges and forget a lot very quickly.
