Stopping breastfeeding, I have a question

NCT told me to breastfeed for 5 mins when he needs it to stop me becoming engaged is it? or blocked ducts. They said if baby is due a feed and i feel comfortable enough (my boobs that is) to miss it then do. Well since this afternoon I haven't really felt uncomfortable, like an erg to empty them as you would when there full. So do I keep missing feeds until I start to become uncomfortable or do I just feed anyway?

The more you feed, the more milk your body will produce, think supply and demand,
If you definitely want to stop, just stop, your body will stop producing milk as it thinks your not using it, it will be painful for a couple of days but will then ease off, it also helps to wear a tight sports tight bra at this time, hope this helps

'Just stopping' is not a good idea! If you have established a supply then going cold turkey really can cause problems, mainly mastitis which is nasty.
When I was considering giving up I was advised to drop a feed every few days.

Don't just stop. The advice to skip it if you're not feeling engorged is fairly sensible. If you do feel 'full' then is hand express to relieve rather than putting baby to breast but it depends whether you want to keep feeding at all. I would also express/feed a little before bed whether you feel that you need it or not as you may wake up very full and, depending on sleeping position, with an already blocked duct.

I cut down dramatically and ended up with mastitis. Incredibly painful. I would cut down gradually.

I didn't think I would have a problem as I had been feeding for a year and I wasn't producing that much...

I'm cutting down gradually with a view to stopping by Christmas. It's best to cut down a feed a week. I express at the time when I would have BF - not as much as a full feed, just enough to keep me comfortable. I've just done it with bedtime feed and after a week I no longer need to express. Kellymom is, as usual, an excellent resource - see here

Well I called NCT last night and the person I spoke to didn't have a clue what I should do.. so I decided instead of just missing random feeds, I'd start to drop them.

Today I've dropped his morning feed which I'll keep up with now, I called again today and got through to somebody that seemed to know what they were talking about! She said to carry on taking my time, drop another feed when I feel ready e.g. Since yesterday afternoon though I've felt practically empty, its a fab feeling! or maybe I've just been engorged the whole time! but anyway I'm taking it slow, still feeding him for 5 mins to bring my supply down and slowly cutting out the feeds. Don't want to make myself bad :(
