Awaiting hospital appointment next week for poor weight gain in 4month old DD and just wondering what will happen at the appointment! In the meantime her stool sample has come back borderline for milk/lactose allergy.....??

Hello. Afraid I don't have an answer, but was wondering what the hcp's class as poor weight gain? This is a fear I have for my ds, you see. Good luck and hope they can help.

Sunflower sorry to hear your feeling the same. My DD has dropped through 2 centiles and at most only ever put 7oz on in 2 weeks with an average of 2.5oz a week some weeks less. She was born at 7.11lb and now at 16 weeks weighs 11.4lb. She drinks around 30oz a day so drs felt she should be putting more on. Hope that helps, it's frustrating having a baby that won't put weight on!!

Yes borderline for milk intolerance so doctors want to wait see what the hospital say before changing milk. Would a borderline intolerance cause poor weight gain though?

I'm not trained but I think it could. Only speaking from personal experience, I'm CMPI and I'm small.

If she is confirmed CMPI and the hospital change her milk will she then start to gain the weight? I've never realise how upsetting it is the constant 'oh she's tiny....how old' comments ??

Being small could just be how she is though. She is gaining weight, and is growing. How is she otherwise? Does she cry a lot, have stomach pains, meeting her milestones etc?

We thought she had colic and struggled with that and wind but I now think it's due to an allergy. She's a very fussy feeder and struggles with feeds. She is otherwise very happy and meeting milestones! Just worry she is so tiny!

sunshine has she ever been checked for tongue tie?

CMPI was suspected with my DS, he had colic really badly and could scream for England. It wasn't CMPI but he does have tt and upper lip tie. Have a read of the article and particularly the symptoms and see what you think

She can relate to a lot of the symptoms and I have previously wondered this however the GP did check and say she was fine...although I wasn't convinced!

Did the GP just look in her mouth? Tt can be notoriously hard to diagnose and if he/she just had a quick look they would most probably have missed a posterior tie.

Yes she just had a quick look and said she can stick her tongue out so she is ok! I'm hoping it is something as simple as this cause I feel I'm clutching at straws at the minute

Not entirely sure that being able to stick her tongue out rules out tt sunshine but what do I know

I've been trying to have a feel but she just bites my finger like its a game. I will ask at the hospital but now you have me thinking that it's a TT.

Unfortunately not many HCPs are able to diagnose tt and many are dismissive of it. There are lots of MNers, including me that were told by a HCP that there Lo didn't have it, only to find out later they did.

I'd have a look in the Mn archive for some previous tongue tie threads

Had DD weighed today and she's put 9oz on in 6 days! She's never put more than 3 in a week on before! Right before we go to hospital! Typical??
