No poo in 3-4 days...

Hi there, I posted on here a few days ago as I had started introducing a bottle of aptamil at night to my previously ebf 17 week old, and wasn't sure if it was agreeing with him, as he had been more 'uncomfortable' seeming and wasn't pooing as frequently and was straining a lot. So in the last 3-4 days he has really only had a few 3-4 oz bottles but hasn't pooed in coming up on 4 days now...
My mum says a little sugar and water should help things a long...should I?is it ok for a baby to go this long without a bowel movement?

It's very normal for babies to poo infrequently. If they seem happy, don't worry, but if in discomfort you could try bicycling their legs, a warm bath or a bottle of water and things should start to move Smile

It's fine. Up to two weeks isn't unheard of :) Keep up the fluids - water too if you're FFing.

I'd try giving a little bit of boiled, cooled water to see if that eases anything - wouldn't worry about the sugar. The water will come out of the teat much faster than milk.

Just checking... 5 days still no poo! Have tried water and sugar and water. Have just given him some teetha granules as he is also getting his first two teeth and he is now sleeping, but he does seem uncomfortable. Do u still think this is ok? Or when do u call the doctor about a lack of bowel movements?

Doesn't need water, certainly doesn't need sugar. He sounds fine

I was just about to post about exactly the same thing! 17 wk old is bf with one bottle of formula a day or every other day. Hasn't pooed since the weekend!! He seems fine but I'm terrified of what will come out when his bowels do open

Don't give water or sugar. My DS record is 8 days and no problem when he did eventually go. It is completely normal.
