Oh dear! Am now reading that apparently plugged ducts can give extreme shooting pains so might not even be thrush! Dr didn't even take a swab - said "we'll treat you for thrush".

Will stop taking flucanazole.

Anyone had plugged ducts with shooting pains?

Is the pain after you've finished feeding? I had really deep shooting pain after a feed which I was convinced was ductal thrush in addition to the surface thrush I had. However, after seeing a lactation consultant at a bf group she suggested it could be due to DS2 clamping down on my nipple with his gum (tongue tie issues) and the pain afterwards was basically the feeling/blood supply coming back. A bit like pins & needles iyswim.
Have you been given any topical treatment?

fluconazole cleared thrush for us, that along with grapefruit seed extract. Ive had thrush before on the nipples/baby orally and had to quit breastfeeding because it was so painful. This time round we nipped it in the bud.
Had 50mg fluconazole for 7 days (this was fine to carry on bf), Timodine for his nappy rash, Nystan for his mouth and canesten for my downstairs. Bought the GSE from amazon and mixed it with distilled water (very important!) and put it in a spray bottle- every feed id spray nipples with it and every change id spray his bum. Also washed everything on 60° and washed hands about a zillion times a day. Got my immune system back in gear by taking Spatone, pregnacare vitamins and eating loads of fruit and veg.
You can beat this thing if you try hard enough!!

As well as Flucnazole, I took aphodiphillis (sp) I got this from H&B. a natural remedy which I believe is like a pro biotic. It was 4 years ago, but the shooting ains were put down to ductal tush after I had nipple trauma.

The thing is, I'm not convinced its thrush as literally have no other symptoms apart from pain - no rash or white stuff anywhere!

Have booked a lactation consultant to see if it is my poor latch. Would much rather rule other things out first as a bit scared of taking meds - never take anything normally and may have been coincidental but ds was being sick after me taking flucanazole so am paranoid about it now!

If it is thrush will take the flucanazole and get some aphodiphillis and gse! Thank you :)
