How to start expressing, help needed!

DS is nearly 6 weeks and BFing is going really well.

I want to start expressing but I'm a bit clueless.

When is best to express? My boobs fill up quickly overnight, even with two feeds.

He feeds every two hours during the day so they don't feel full like they do at night and upon waking. (Unsure if this determines when to express.)

Also, do you heat the milk at all, or is it room temperature?

I've researched storage and 'shelf life' but I'm unsure on the rest.

Thank you in advance lovely Mumsnetters Smile

Express whenever it suits you. I was expressing every feed to increase my supply but now just pump one breast early in the morning when DS's feeds are slightly more spaced and my breasts feel fuller (DS only has one breast per feed).

We warm the milk gently - DS seems to prefer. We just sit the bottle in a cup of warm/ hot water for a while. We don't heat it much though, just a little warm.

I tend to express just after DD has fed - she rarely empties the breast so I just pump out whatever is left - often quite a surprisingly large amount!

Yes I'm always impressed by how much you can get out! A lactation consultant recommended compressions to maximise output. She sent me a link to this video to slow how link
