Troubleshoot me!

I've been BF my 5 month old. He was a healthy 5 weeks prem but had reflux and tongue tie, both of which got sorted at 12 weeks old.

The tongue tie had previously interfered with feeding as he gulped air and had a terrible latch. This improved after he got the snip. Initially I had also a massive let-down which choked him, but that doesn't seem to happen anymore. I can always feel my milk come in either when I honk of feeding, or within the first 30 seconds of starting a feed.

However, he bites me within minutes of every feed now. Every single feed. Bites and twists and squirms. I've discovered today that the only way I can keep him calm on the breast is to continually pat and rub his butt/back as he feeds, which is knackering! Within 5-10 seconds of me stopping he begins to bite and wriggle again.

Earlier today he fed only 5 min of each side. I felt full of milk before feeding him, and lighter afterwards which made me think he's maybe improved his ability to get milk more efficiently. He also lasted 3 hours before the next feed. However last night he only lasted every 2 hours which is so confusing!

Anyone know what on earth is going on and what I can do about it?

It is also worth mentioning that, due to ill health, I have begun this weekend to express and bottle feed (so I can have an occasional break). Of his 8 feeds a day 2 are also formula now. But I am keeping up my milk supply with expressing twice a day and BFing at least 4 times as well. Am hoping he hasn't become reliant on taking from a bottle so soon?

Help anyone?

DD did horrible clawing/biting at the same age, it was horrid! (She has a snipped TT too, although not sure if that's relevant, maybe their latches just aren't quite as good?) I think it is a developmental thing of wanting to see the outside world combined with the very beginnings of teething.

We had to revert to lying down feeding in bed for every feed for a while. When there was nothing to distract her and she had my full attention she seemed much calmer and to feed more effectively.

It gets much easier (round 6 months for us). Is there a local LLL/breastfeeding group you could visit for support?

Nice to know I'm not alone! It is a nightmare. I've tried to lie down with him but although his reflux has improved (no longer painful for him), he still vomits a massive amount if laid down during a feed. Hmm

I'm seeking BF advice again in the morning, but am slightly dreading it as I think they'll say feed little and often again to increase supply, but that 1.5-2hourly round the clock feeding is what brought my to my knees in the first place Sad
