Breastfeeding Room Trafford Centre

Yesterday I went to the Trafford centre with my 6month old son. I asked an Intu lady where I could breastfeed as I couldn't find anywhere to sit & was told I couldn't in public (I hadn't slept & lo was screaming so didn't argue & there was nowhere in public to sit anyway) and she told me to go in the breastfeeding room off the toilets near the restaurants.

Well, it's was repulsivly filthy & it really upset me to feed him there but he was screaming to be fed. I couldn't find anyone after to complain about it (since it's changed to Intu the uniforms are black not red so hard to spot people) but I've sent them an email this morning.

I know it's not their fault if people leave it a mess but it was obvious it hadn't been checked/cleaned at all for a while & I doubt the chair had ever.

I hadn't been since lo was born but I remember the toilets always being clean for such a large place - has anyone else used the bf room there and is this how usually is? I won't be going again whilst lo is still bf'ing because it was revolting.

Really this is just to find out whether I should have been surprised/it's a known thing & to advise people to avoid it if they didn't know.

I'm waiting on a reply from the Trafford centre.

What's an Intu lady? Confused
You can BF where you like, I've BF'd there.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 23/10/2013 15:49

If the room's dirty, it needs cleaned.

You can feed anywhere though and I've seen loads if peoe doing it. There are lots of seats outside shops, at the water features etc you can sit on.

If not, there are lots of cafes etc. if you don't want to buy a drink, use the John Lewis breastfeeding rooms

SalmonellaDeGhoul · 23/10/2013 16:48

Of course you can bf in public! Who told you you couldn't?

AHardDaysWrite · 23/10/2013 16:53

I go there all the time and have fed both my babies everywhere - in the restaurants, shops, sitting on the benches outside the shops. No-one has ever been negative.

DodieDoo · 23/10/2013 17:09

I quite often bf in public but there was nowhere nearby to sit. I didn't want to argue that point with the woman because my lo was already screaming & there was nowhere to sit anyway. I was just disgusted by the state of the 'designated area'

I don't understand Confused. You could BF on any of the benches spread around there, sitting in the massive food court, in Starbucks or Nero or John Lewis' cafe ...

SalmonellaDeGhoul · 23/10/2013 17:13

Dodie, I would write a letter of complaint
First that you were told you couldn't bf in public, that's just wrong. And secondly that you then had to feed in a dirty room.
Not on .

Honestly if there was somewhere else I could have sat I would have done! I was near the restaurants but it was midday and there really wasn't a free bench/chair. If my little boy wasn't screaming I would have kept on going to find somewhere.

Sod's law was that as soon as I left to meet back up with my sister there was a free bench but he was fast asleep & full up by then lol
