Hiya, DS has just got his first 2 teeth. DH normally feeds him EBM in the evening, but DS normally goes to sleep during or just after, how do I sort the brushing of teeth?? Can I do it before or do i have to wake him up and do it after?? Is it better if i just BF?
Sorry about silly question.

personally I would just brush in the morning or if you want to do it twice a day just do it befor his bottle and don't worry about it
I wouldn't think that him having some EBM and then not brushing would be a huge issue
...now i it were a bottle of coke he was falling asleep on that would be different

Thankyou trinityrhino, I didn't really want to wake him up after his feed. You just never know how long it takes 2 get him back 2 sleep.

I agree with tr. My ds has 8 teeth and we brush his teeth once he comes out of the bath. Then he has a breast feed and few oz of ebm also. He usually goes to bed awake but even if he was always awake I don't think it's the most relaxing thing for them to do before bed! General good oral hygene is quite sufficient IMO. If you think he's consuming quite a lot of sweet things you could brush after every meal, then if he's asleep when going to bed it's no big deal. Relax!

I'm glad to hear this bramblina. At the minute only BM so no other sweet things. Thanx for reassurance

Didn't say, ds is 11m so on a full 3 meals a day, nothing sweeter than fruit really, no added sugar etc, and this is still my opinion on the teeth. I think as he gets older and is drinking his milk out of a cup before bed, walking to bed himself and always going to bed awake, it can be a thing we do as we walk past the bathroom, on the way to read a story in bed. I see why you asked in the first place though- when you want to do the best, it's not always possible to see a way round other things to do the best. But waking them isn't the best either and I guess we just have to weigh up the pros and cons. HTH

We brush our two's teeth morning and evening, but they have a drink of milk with their bedtime story after the evening brushing and then go straight to bed. They are 5 and 3 and have no cavities and perfect teeth (and see the dentist every 6m). We have done this all along, whether their drink was bm, ebm, formula or fridge milk. So you can see what my opinion is!
