Formula reheating question

laughingeyes2013 · 19/10/2013 02:45

I'm new to formula and am having to introduce combined feeding.

Once the feed is made with boiled water, and has been cooled, the packet says it can be used for up to 2 hours. But if I've cooled it down a bit too well, or if its cold and hasn't been used in the first hour yet, can I plonk the bottle in warm water to warm it back up a little? Baby doesn't like room temperature!

Yes you can, but my advise would be try to get baby to learn to take at room temp, will make your life sooooooo much easier. Especially out & about, open carton, pour into bottle, feed. No searching for warming method!!

I've given formula at room temp to DS, but I think it's nicer to warm it and if your baby doesn't like room temp then it doesn't take long to warm the milk a bit.

If you're out and about, there's a tommee tippee bottle warmer, it's a flask so you can keep the hot water, and the lid for the flask is designed so you can put the bottle in and then put the hot water to heat the bottle.

They had them at my local M&S cafe and I thought they were great! I think they're on Amazon for around £10 but on phone at moment so not sure how to link it!

Chip - if I were to make up a bottle at home and then use it an hour later, can I reheat it?

I think it's fine, if you make up a fresh bottle of formula the carton says it should be used within 2 hours so I'd reheat it.

It's not advised but I made up bottles, cooled them and stored them in the fridge for up to 12 hours and reheated them when required and DS hasn't ever had an upset tummy. In the summer if we were going out I did used to treat myself to buying the ready made 200ml cartons though!
