Can you pass on cold&flu bug through BFing?

Just that really. I can feel myself coming down with something. Half way through weaning from breast to bottle ( currently up to 4 bottles per 24 hours) and wondered if it might be better to increase bottles rather than pass on a bug through breast milk?
Also, can I take paracetamol while BFing?
DS is nearly 5 mo. Thanks

I think you pass through antibodies to the specific cold rather than the cold itself, so I would increase breastfeeds rather than bottle feeds.

IME colds and bugs are milder and don't last as long in breastfed babies.

Yes, you can take paracetamol. You can't take lemsip flu plus or things like that, as they contain decongestant which can interfere with milk production.

I don't think it'll pass though BM, more likely through physical contact. If anything, breast feeding boosts immunity. Try to maintain good hand hygiene when you sneeze/ blow your nose. I'd carry on with the mix feeding personally rather than increasing the bottles. I had awful D&V when DD was small, DH had it too but she avoided it.

Thanks, I will take some paracetamol and just stick to 4 bottles per day for now.

no, in fact you will pass on your anti-bodies making it less likely that he will catch it!

Cold and flu bugs are passed by physical contact or airborne droplets, not through bm.

Bm offers protection to your child, so feed them as much as possible. Any illness that you connect, your body will produce antibodies to fight the infection, and these will be passed on in bm. So your baby's underdeveloped immune system gets a boost against this particular bug every time you feed him. So bf him as much as you can rather than offering bottles.

AND YES paracetamol fine when bf.

As the pps said, bf will protect from the exact virus you have.

You can take paracetamol and ibuprofen.
