2 day old not interested in feeding

My wee girl was born on Tuesday evening by emergency section at 40+1, weighing 7 pounds.

I've been offering the breast regularly and doing plenty of skin to skin but she hasn't latched on once. I've then been syringe feeding the minuscule amount of colostrum I can express and topping up with formula. She isn't interested in the formula either and was admitted to the neonatal unit last night as her blood sugar levels had plummeted.

What can I do? Is there any way we can get breast feeding established? The midwives have been wonderfully supportive but this wee girl just doesn't seem interested in food at all - regardless of source or delivery method Sad

Sounds like you need some RL help. Is there an infant feeding coordinator at the hospital?

I can't give advice but I can give a happy story.

My wee one was an awful feeder at first after a difficult deliver - I had to hand express colostrum and syringe feed, she wouldn't latch, and the amount of colostrum seemed so small!

But I tried her at the boob before every feed, and got help with the latch (I was still in hosp which made it easier). We were discharged still syringing, but when my milk came in everything changed - the drugs had left her system and her little face when she got a mouthful of milk! After that, bf was so easy. She's 6 months old and I'm feeding her now.

Don't give up! It will get easier when your milk comes in.
