Tender right breast

I have a roughly 50:50 combo feed 4 month old. Last night I noted a tenderness with a possible lump on the underside of the right breast. Suspecting a blocked duct I got baby up & feed her. THe lump seemed to go and was much less sore. Job done I thought.

This morning that side is tender. Even the duvet against it was uncomfortable. I've feed her. It is still quite sore though I can't feel an obvious lump this morning. Wondering if this might be mastitis and if I should be of to doctors for some anti biotics

It sounds like a blocked duct. If you start to feel poorly (feverish) then yes, you may need antibiotics.

Sometimes, feeding with baby's chin to the lump can clear it more thoroughly - with a four-month-old, you can lie on your back on the bed, and get her to lie on top of you?

Pumping can also help to clear an obstruction.

Clearing a blocked duct can lead to tenderness at the area for a few days. If you can take ibuprofen I would take one just to reduce the pain and inflammation.

Thanks. I've had paracetamol & ibuprofen & it is a bit better. feeding rugby ball instead of across to try to ensure blocked duct is created. The nurse practitioner has authorised anti biotics overs the phone which I'm going to collect but not start unless things don't settle.
