Hi
My LO has been ebfed and has been able to take a bottle of expressed milk since about 3 weeks. I'm going back to work in just over a month and would like to get used to have some formula as I won't be able to express enough for all her feeds. I have got some frozen bm in the freezer but want to get her used to formula for when it runs out & I want my supply to start adjust too. I tried her with some aptamil this afternoon but she was trying to eat it rather than drink it. My friend also tried to give her a bit but she just wanted boob. Any tips? My plan is to mix feed her when I return to work

I had to switch DS to formula at 3 months. I started off by dream feeding him the formula, he would automatically suck whilst asleep so this was the easiest time to feed him. I then started giving it to him while he was awake but sleepy so he would get used to having it while awake. At first he would just play with the teat but the best thing was to persevere - took about 15 minutes of him thinking it was a toy to chew on before he would drink any.

If she refuses the bottle, don't breastfeed her straight after as she will start to think that this will be a sort of "reward" for refusing. Wait about 10 minutes, play with her etc, before you breastfeed. Don't give it to her when she is starving hungry either - best time is when they are tired, or happy and content.

It took us about a week before DS got properly used to ff. You'll get the hang of it, just stick at it Smile
