Refusing the bottle

Hello Ladies,
My little one is now 12 weeks and has been breastfed since birth. I have been trying to introduce the bottle (formula or breast milk) for a few weeks now but he absolutely refuses it and starts crying until I stop trying and offer the breast. Some people have advised to buy a dummy so he could get used to the new sucking pattern but he has refused it too... I feel a bit powerless as he has taken 180 ml the very first time I have tried the bottle and since then has absolutely refused it each time. I have tried when really hungry, with my husband and me next to him, with my husband and out of the room, with formula, with breast milk and nothing seems to be working. Any tips? Thank you in advance!

I had loads of problems getting my DS to take a bottle when I went back to work at 6m. Tried loads of different bottles and tactics. My HV suggested breastflow bottles and they worked! I got them online. Only problem is, they do leak, which is annoying, but less annoying than a screaming baby.

For diamonds and any other watchers! Smile
Dd is 4 weeks today and I have had some success on the dummy front (said tentatively!) it's a nuby natural flex one for 0-6month, I bought it direct from nuby website. Luckily I got a bottle too as they had a lot of stuff on offer, so am now keeping fingers crossed as she accepted the dummy she might also accept the nuby teat on the bottle. I won't try the bottle till later or even tomorrow though.
Disclaimer - I had to persevere with dummy and she did complain (but not scream) but once she realised she could suck on this one in the same way as on a boob she accepted it!

I'm also waiting for a magic answer on this one, mine is 13 weeks today and we've tried almost everything. Is there much of a difference between the breastflow and medela calma bottles, does anyone know?

My 21 week old has achieved a scary level of bottle refusing to the extent she refused anything when I had to leave her for 2 days a month ago. What eventually worked was a sippy cup and letting her hold it

Hi Orchard. Not used the Calma, but just had a look at the website and it looks similar to the breastflow as I think it has 2 parts to the teat - a sort of hard inner bit and a soft outer bit.
