Hi everyone

My 14 week old has been having quiet bad reflux in the last few weeks so my Hv advised changing her formula to c&g anti reflux.....so have started it and discovered the teats were too small, what size teats should I get I'm using Tomme Tippee bottles with a 2 teat would the next size up be ok?.. And how long does it take for you to see a difference?? I'm a bit worried as dd has been bringing up lots and lots between feeds and got her weighed this week to see that she hasn't gained anything so feeling very down that my gorgeous dd isn't thriving according to these charts but in other ways she looks like she is, she's really bright, alert, and happy out, sleeps great sooo I'm hoping that the reflux is the reason for this?.. Any advise would be great.

Thanks :-)

Frankly

I have no idea on bottle teats. Both my DDs had reflux and I did not get any useful advice from HVs. Have you seen a GP about it? Infant Gaviscon can be good for keeping feeds down. DD2 is dairy intolerant. She has a prescribed formula (Nutramigen) which has made a huge difference. Without it she was vomiting loads.

We're using sma staydown anti reflux milk with tommee tippee variflow teats. Apart from the odd lump that gets caught in the teat we have no problems.

Both twins were prescribed infant gaviscon but this seems to be much more effective - the gaviscon was just making them constipated and unhappy. The staydown milk does, to an extent, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was.

My DS was put on the same milk and it made his sickness much worse, turns out he has cows milk protein intollerance. I think the reflux formula has more milk in it than the comfort formula that he was on previously.

Vari flow teats are good, but its trial and error. I ended up using the 6m plus ones from when my lo was 8 weeks for the same reason as you. We also got on with the doctor browns bottles. The less they burp, the less they are sick I find...
You should notice a pretty immediate improvement on sickness (and any feeding pain within a few days) so if you are not happy still do go to the docs. My lo has been in hospital this week through lack of weight gain because of reflux. If you are not happy keep on at the docs, particularly if they are in pain. X

Have you considered Ranitidine and/or Domperidome?

We looked at the anti-reflux formula for DD but decided against it as it isn't made up according to NHS guidelines. The risk of DD becoming seriously ill through powder formula contamination was too high for us.

It took a referral to paediatrics at the hospital to get the meds sorted.

Hi ladies thanks for all the replies dd has been on the c&g anti reflux now for a week and it has been a great improvement she's put on a lb of weight and not brining anything back up, she seems so much more content....just one slight prob she's really really constipated, her poo this eve (1st in 4 days) was really difficult for her to pass, and it was really hard she was screaming in pain, there was also traces of blood in her stool, should I take her to the docs??? And what other than the boiled water can I give her, boiled water hasn't been working at all.....just so annoying you get one thing sorted only to get problems with something else :-( could I do half her normal formula and half the anti reflux?????

Thanks again, greatly appreciate the advice from you all

Hi Frankly,

My 13 week old DS also suffers from reflex. He's fed a combination of breast and bottle. Is it Cow & Gate 'Comfort' milk that you're using, or is there a specific anti-reflux formula?

I ask because DS is on comfort milk and this is specifically for constipation, so I use this to balance out the infant gaviscon I give him 4 times a day. I also massage his tummy when he strains to ... er .. help him on his way...

MrFranklyShankly · 21/10/2013 16:18

Hi mims thanks for replying, yeah she's on c&g anti reflux, and I also have a box of comfort as well I ad tried her on that as I thought that might help so I might do half and half see if that helps, she has been screaming with the pain of passing movements today it's sooooo hard to see her like that, I will try the tummy massage too ill try anything to see if she gets some ease, just when I thought we'd turned a corner there is always something! Thanks again

Frankly ;-)
