I'm headingto the Drs in an hour. Have been ill since tuesday night vomiting and diahrea- I suspect food posioning as Dh was ill as well tuesday night.
Any comments on antibiotics while Brest feeding?

I want to knock this on the head as have lost 6 lb in 3 days, not drinking nearly enough and can't keep food down but fel V hungrey. DS is nearly 4 months, tottal B-fed and still feeding well, had one off feed in middle of night but as I was loudly sick in the middle of it I think he got scared.

As long as you say that you are breastfeeding, they will give you suitable antibiotics that you can take at the same time.

I had quite a lot of antibiotics when I was breastfeeding, mostly for mastitis and infections in my stitches. Nobody suggested that I stop beastfeeding. They did warn me it might cause runny poo in ds, but frankly with bf babies who can tell?

I hope you get sorted out. Dehydration must be a concern I would have thought. Poor you!

uni ((hugs)) good luck, i've had 3 sets since BF, (2 for mastitas 1 for another infection) anyhow mention to your dr your feeding and he'll hopefully give u something which is OK, althou the first set of antibotics I had Joey was NB so didn't know any better the second set really unsettled him and the third he wasn't too bad with. they can apparently make your milk taste slightly different. def need to get it sorted thou. good luck.

Will they give you antibiotics for food poisoning?

Poor you - it's horrible to be so ill and have to feed too. I had gastric flu when DS1 was 10mo and it was vile.

If they do give you anything and say you can't take it while bfeeding, check with the Bfeeding Network's Drugline before you believe them. GPs notoriously know nowt about bfeeding.

Thank you all, nice to have some sympathy. no idea if antibiotics will be an option but Dh seemed to think food posioning being bacticial they might be an option.
I really want to stop feeling sooo crap. DS is fine at mo, hes still feeding well. A friend is coming round this afternoon to take him out for an hour so I can collapse and die for a bit.

Oh goodness.. how awful for you UniSarah, Am no Dr but would be surprised if they give you anti biotics for food poisoning.
You can take certain ones, I had them when ds was 4 weeks old.

Do remember that it makes the baby VERY thirsty as they pass thru. (Not what you will want to hear at mo)
My Mum always recommends flat lemonade for S & D. Maybe they will give you Dioralyte sachets to replace lost minerals.
Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks all. back now, not antibiotics, but have been perscribed some Buccastem to try and stop me being/ feeling sick, helping limit the dehydration.
So far its working, I've managed to keep a smal glass of water down- hurrah.
Had to LOL at one of teh drug side effects- enlarged breasts, like I'm goingto notice that!
