Confused Really been enjoying breastfeeding ds 8 weeks up until now...suddenly feels like all I do is feed after ds always feeding 2-3 hourly mainly 3! Feels like all of a sudden I can't fill the lil man up n he's majorly frustrated....Is it possible I'm not enough for him!? Hmm ideas on what to do!?? Thanks!

Well my DD is still like this two years in.

Some baby's are just hungrier than others and want feeding more often IME. If you want to top him up it is a personal choice, but maybe he would want an extra few feeds.

It might be a growth spurt or short lived phase too. I am pretty sure DD had her first big growth spurt at around 8 weeks.

Plus, the more you feed him, the more milk your body will start to produce to meet his needs.

Feeding 2-3 hourly is at the lower end of 'normal' in frequency for a breastfed baby of that age, I would say. Lots of babies feed more frequently. It certainly doesn't indicate you/your milk is enough, breast milk is just very easily digested.

If you've exclusively breastfed for 8 weeks on demand then its very unlikely there would then be any problem.

diamonds, some good points already here.

Not sure what your expectations are or where they have come from - but 2-3 hourly is absolutely normal and actually rather less frequent than some babies.

I'm a bit older than 8 weeks, and so far this morning (since 7 am) I have had something to eat or drink about every hour and a half :)

Thanks all...I completely understand 2-3 hourly is amazing for such a young baby, wat I mean is he's gone from that to constant feeding since last Friday, literally every 30minute after what could be a very long feed! Feels like he can't stay asleep now as he's hungry. Just wanted some reassurance tht things are unlikely to have suddenly gone "wrong" as in supply etc. My eldest son was bf and he's made ds2 seem like a complete dream for a bf baby until this last week!

Ah, I get you.....then it's very likely this phase will ease off. For whatever reason he needs more milk and more contact with you. If you go with it, meeting his needs, it is likely to settle down soon :)

Oh yes, that is very true. I had forgotten just how frequent feeds were in those days Grin

2-3 is actually not a lot at all and DD would feed constantly! She feeds 2-3 hourly now she is a toddler!
