How do I relieve blocked milk ducts? Half of my right breast is now completely solid due to blocked milk ducts due to having mastitis that I cannot shift and they don't budge when baby feeds, im worried my whole breast will become this way and my baby won't be able to feed

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable wil be along shortly. AFAIK you need to keep feeding with the blocked breast as often possible, also other breast to avoid more blockages. I.e. get the baby to unblock it.

I had blocked ducts (not mastitis) a couple of times and remember how painful it was.

I got some advice about massage techniques in the shower from MN using fingers in like a spider shape which helped combined with feeding frequently.

Check out the Kellymom site for some advice?

I hope it clears soon I remember feeling like I'd been kicked by a horse. Sad

Also is the mastitis being treated?

Get in the shower lather your boob up, use a wide tooth comb and "rake" towards the nipple, feed leaning over the baby (gravity) feed from the boob as much as pos, I would feed from that one then offer some of the other one to stop that becoming engorged, make a fist and when baby feeds knead along the hard spot towards nipple. After doing all that your boob will feel bruised but should clear, be as firm as you can take!
If you need to, express to clear it when you are kneading!

Hi there... And poor you, so painful!

I received the following advice and it made such a difference...

Make a hot as you can bear compress using a nappy and wrap around infected boob, massage boob whilst hot (the relief is lovely).

Take anti-inflammatories eg Nurofen (doc prescribed me something stronger)

Feed baby after hot compress - hope this helps.

Yep, google dangle technique.

From memory you need their chin to be working over the area the blocked milk duct is. I know for be it was the strangest idea, but worked within minutes!!
