Breast pump recommendation please

hi all, pfb was born 1/10. Was ebf initially but that wasn't working great so had started to introduce a bottle and went full formula feeding yesterday.

I must have had the starts of mastitis when I stopped feeding as now have it full blown.

Have been to doctors for antibiotics this morning but need to express to clear the infection.

Can anyone recommend a good breast pump and also, if I wasn't going to feed baby with the milk, would I need to sterilise it before use?

Just want to try and get this sorted asap. Apols for any typos and any delayed responses as very tired!

I have the Medela swing which is good!

Honestly I would recommend hand expressing rather than a pump. Pumps don't always drain all your breast effectively and if you have mastitis it's likely as a result of a blockage already so you don't want to make it worse.

Try getting in a hot shower with a wide toothed combing from chest to nipple, then gently squeeze just behind your nipple with your thumb and fingers. The combing helps break down blockages and move built up milk toward the nipple, the squeezing expresses the milk out.

Medela mini. Loved it. Battery operated or mains which is soooo convenient especially if you ever need to pump out the house.

I used a Tommy tipee manual one, didn't cost much and did the job, if you're not sure you'll continue to use it probably not worth spending a lot ( cost about 12 quid) if it was me I'd prob just pour a kettle full of boiling water over it in the sink to clean it rather than a full sterilize. Sounds painful! Hope you get it sorted soon.

I've been getting on pretty well with the Aveda hand pump, although I have pretty fast flow/over-supply (did 5floz in under ten minutes this afternoon) so may not be a good example. Yes, it does recommend that you sterilise before use. I've got the steam steriliser which goes in the microwave and is fairly easy to use. Good luck!
