Just got home with my new baby and realised he has tongue tie.

I knew there was something a bit off kilter but didn't think to look before. He is really unsettled and my nipples are getting damaged despite my best efforts at latching. I have fed two other babies so wasn't expecting to be in so much pain.

the tongue tie is just off centre and very visible. What will they do? Can I get it seen straight away?

Well have no experience except from other threads on here!!
See your health visitor/GP tomorrow.
They will snip it I expect but it can take time (so I've heard) some people can be told the waiting lists are weeks long. However a friend of mine had her newborn sorted within a fortnight.

Thanks for the reply.

A fortnight seems ages. I wonder if I can go private? I will end up bottle feeding at that rate, bits of my nipples are actually falling off Sad

Hi congratulations enjoy your newborn snuggles
Dd had tt not found till 4 weeks
From what I've read (mostly on here) how quickly you get seen depends on where you are or if you can afford to go private
Dd got her's cut by lactation midwife in the maternity unit. Referral from health visitor (who could not find tt but sent me as i keep on that something was wrong)
If I was you I'd call the ward tomorrow and ask if you can see lactation consultation ASAP.

It did get so much better after tongue was cut and we'r still ebf at 12 weeks with no plans to stop
Hope you get it sorted soon
Apparently there is a face book group that is very usefulbbut I've never been able to find it
Good luck xx

Not had direct experience but based on a few friends' experiences, go private if you can or you could have a wait on your hands.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Congratulations!

Oh meant to add i didn't have to wait at all... appointment was within 3days of referral and mw cut tongue there and then. They just swaddled baby, I held her head mw lifted tongue with her fingers and snipped with sterile scissors. Took seconds. Put dd straight on boob after it had stopped bleeding by time she finished feed.

We paid a private midwife as I had heard there was a 6-week wait for the NHS in my area and DS was already 3 weeks old. HV had told me DS's tongue was fine but my bruised nipples told me otherwise!
