DP moaning that I'm over feeding

Help

I have an 18 week old baby who is a little chubba and likes her milk. She is bf on demand and I literally follow her lead. She's content and sleeps well- usually between 9-12 hours straight at night.

Lately, DP has been making snide remarks about her weight and interfering with feeding on demand. He has been with me throughout my breastfeeding journey and has heard all the same advice & info I have, so he is well informed and does understand. Yet, he thinks everytime she cries I feed her (I don't but I know her hungry so

Her height and weight are in proportion. You are fine. Stick with it.

I wouldn't worry DD1 was massive, 99th centile height and weight, tall and chunky, she is now still tall but a slim 3.5. Dd2 is only 12 mths and beautifully chunky ( despite Never sitting still!!) but a bit shorter. Both exclusively breastfed and slept for 9-12 hrs from 5 weeks. Chunky baby does not equal big child/adult. You are obviously producing gold top! Grin

Ps. My husbands elderly relatives ( from french farming community) have a great take on the chubby issue. To them chunky means well nourished and able to fight off illness. They have a point.

I think he may have issues over bullies at school as I have heard random comments but he doesn't admit to it. His mom & one sister are very overweight so it could also stem from that.

You really need to talk to him about this. Your DD is 18 weeks old. He is already betraying attitudes that could cause her very serious difficulties in her life.

It is normal and usually entirely healthy for: babies to be fat, children to be chubby, and women not to be thin.

Show him this. I have breast fed two babies on demand, both were nicely chubby until they became more mobile. They are both active, average weight for their age now.

You can't have fat babies. They are chubby and adorable for that. Ask him why he thinks he is such an expert on BFing?

Tell him that there is some evidence to suggest that breastfeeding actually lowers the risk of obesity for babies later in life.
