Hi I am going out tonight for the first time, my sil is takin baby, he is 10 weeks old and bf, he will be gone from about 5 this evening until 11 in the morn, I was planning bringing pump and just using it to relief myself if I need to, is that ok? Will my supply be effected? Should I be sitting down every 3/4 hours and doing proper pumping sessions? Thanks in advance for any advice Smile

At 10 weeks I wouldn't have been able to go more than 3 hours without pumping due to sheer engorgement. (But then I think I could've fed a litter, I had so much milk.)

I would guess that you should pump every 4 hours, especially overnight, since 10 weeks is still very early days. But I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be around soon.

I think it depends how settled you feel your supply is. I had a night off at that stage and only pumped to relieve. Buy I was suffering with oversupply anyway so that still meant every couple of hours. I did get blocked ducts about this stage but again that was probably down to the oversupply. If you feel confident in your supply them one night shouldn't make too much difference but I would still attempt a couple of good pumping sessions to recreate your baby feeding- say 10pm and 5am proper pumping and in between just for relief. Best to do it in a way which did in with when your baby will feed when you get home too. Totally depends on your body and your supply though.
