Follow on milk?!?!?!

I think I may be opening up a MN can of worms here (I seem to remember this topic being on a par with baby rice) but here goes......

Ds is 6.5 months old and I'm about to run out of milk for him. Should I be buying the follow on milk for 6 month + now? Has it got extra stuff in it that he needs now?

Or is it some evil ploy by the formular company?!?!?!?!?!

we just carried on with SMA Gold until ds went on to cow's milk

hard hats on ! It is a marketign ploy in that they can advertise this and price promote it but not first formulas and you can happily continue with the nromal one until a year . If you are starting to wean it is unlikely your ds needs it but you may find it more economical. Do check the make up instructions to make sure the same size tin goes as far though. Just because it seems cheaper doesn't mean it neceassarily converts to cheaper feeds if you need more and/or larger scoops. Some babies find it harder to digest or constipating.

I have used SMA progress simply because it's often on a price promo in Sainsburys

It's an evil ploy by formula companies Sweetheart. Interestingly, I also recently learned on MN that the majority of babies can have normal cows milk over 6 months SO LONG as they have a good diet (vitamin and iron-full) when they do. (This would have been no good for mine. I was going the baby-led(ish) weaning route and he didn't bother til he was 13 months - took him off SMA gold at around 14 months).
Oh, and what LIZS says too! In a nutshell, I wouldn't bother with it personally.
