12 week old off his feeds and refusing bottles

12 week old DS is fed Aptamil in Dr Brown bottles 6 times a day and has been since birth. He was taking 6-7oz per feed. In the last week, this has dropped to 4-6oz and over last three days, each feed has become a battle - arching, crying, flailing, scrabbling with hands, drawing up legs but will finally take the bottle (up to an hour of trying on and off) and then chug most of it down. Bedtime, however, he will drink between 7-10oz! He also bears down during every feed and has alternated between constipation and poo-ing a lot over the last couple of days. Seems ok in himself though and sleeping fine. Was sleeping through the night - now is hit and miss. Once today, half way through his afternoon feed he stopped, went red and just screamed in pain, the poor little man :(. During feeds I can hear his tummy making noises and this coincides with his squirming.
This morning, at 7am he had zero interest in his bottle, despite not feeding since midnight. Am at wits end.

I got emergency appointment with doctor who checked ears, throat, temperature etc. and all is well. Of course, at the GP, he drank 5oz without a bother!

Does anyone know what this could be? Could reflux just present at 12 weeks (he seems ok being laid down etc. though)? Was he just a bit bunged up and now it's regulating itself? Could it be oral thrush (he has white coating on tongue - GP noticed but said he's probably nothing).

Any ideas welcome. Am trying not to get stressed about it but it's getting worrying...

Have a look at The Wonder Weeks (book, website or phone app), leap 3, which happens at around 12 weeks.

We just went through this last week when DD was 12 weeks. It's nice to have an explanation. Grin

DD is now 8.5 months old. She's been like this a few times since she was born. She goes off her milk for a few days, each bottle is a battle, then it just rights itself and she goes back to her normal amount of formula. Try not to stress I'm sure all will be fine in a few days Smile

Thanks! We're back on infacol, which seems to help him as he's trumping for Britain and being less (but still quite!) fussy on his feeds. Will give it 3-4 days and hope it rights itself, otherwise, was thinking of Comfort milk if no improvement. Any experiences of this? HV said it could help but agreed trying a combination of infacol and some water/diluted juice every couple of days to keep him regular would be a good first option. They're mysterious little creatures, aren't they?! If he could just tell me what was up!
