Omeprazole - how long does it take to kick in and have you had good experiences?

Hi
After ranitidine has stopped working and baby is in lots of pain again, consultant has suggested omeprazole. He said if it doesn't work then he will need to be admitted to hospital for tube feeding and exploratory tests to see whats happening. He thinks his oesophagus is inflamed and that's why he has been struggling to feed.
So, how long did omeprazole take to work? Did it not work for anyone? I am stressing about the possibility of him being admitted to hospital.
Thanks.

Oh no, your poor DS. I found Omeprazole worked fairly quickly (within a couple of days). I did keep giving DD Ranitidine while we changed over as you shouldn't take them off it suddenly. What dosage have you been prescribed? As with the Ranitidine, there is a minimum and maximum safe dose that you can give them. I started at the lowest and gradually increased until DD became happier. Have you been given Losec MUPS? Did you know that you should give it on an empty stomach and at least 30 minutes before feeds for it to be as effective as possible?

Hope things get better for you and your baby. On a positive note, at least you seem to have a proactive consultant.

Thanks. Yes, he has been great. He said to go straight to max dose as he is losing weight so he doesn't want to mess bout with it.
Fingers crossed for improvement by the weekend then. That would be amazing!

And yes, it is that stuff. He said to come straight off the ranitidine though and that it didnt matter if it was with food etc!
Ill give it first thing in the morning when there is a gap to feed him, that'd be the best time I think.
Thanks for the good advice. X

Only a couple of days for me too. What a difference it made. She now naps during the day and is overall a lot more 'chilled'. Hope it kicks in for you ASAP

I learned everything about giving the dose from t'internet rather than the consultant! Try and see what works best. I gave the full dose in one go, but I think some people split it and give half in the morning and half in the evening so that their LO always have some in their system. Fingers crossed for you. I hate hearing about babies in pain from reflux.
