Doidy cups

I'm currently in the process of moving my EBF six month old on to formula. The HV tells me not to bother with bottles just go straight onto a doidy cup. I've dropped one feed doing this and can roughly get four ounces in her. This doesn't seem enough to me as says on packaging for her age it should be seven ounces. Obviously I have no idea how much she would be taking if she was breast fed.
She is my third born and this is all new to me as the others went onto bottles! I quite like the idea of no bottles but can I feasibly drop all breast feeds for doidy cups!?
Anyone achieved this?
Thanks

I didnt like the doidy cup and preferred the lidded tommee tippee first cup. You can use it with the lid off too if required.

I bought a doidy cup and used it once! The tommy tippee one worked much better.

Doidy cups are much better when they are a bit older. DS had one at 8 months and its wasn't a success. At 18 months he loves doing it himself now. I would keep trying for a sips of water but doubt you'll get much in this way.

I think you'll struggle to get enough milk into her with just a cup. I think they need a minimum of around 20oz formula per day at that age. I think a lot of it will end up on the floor/down her top etc.

I would probably put her onto bottles but ensure they are stopped by 1 year when a tommee Tippee/doidy will be more successful and she needs less milk by then anyway as she will be well established on solids.

Thanks for the replies, given me something to think about. So has anyone totally bypassed bottles and gone onto any type of cup, doidy or Tommie tippee for a six month old?

Thanks

I dont know anyone who did (I bottle fed both of mine till 1 year). DD switched to cups around 15 months old and DS started having the odd drink of milk from a cup around 9 months and was off bottles and onto cups for milk by 11 months.

My 4 mo is a bottle refuser, though I've not given up yet! She either pushes the teat out with her tongue or gnaws on it - she's no idea how to get the milk out! We also have a doidy cup for her. It's more successful but def not enough to use on its own. Best so far was 30mls in 20mins. But she gets better slowly. I'm going to keep trying bothGrin

my 2 also liked the avent magic cup and they do a 6month+ one avent magic cup - I used to get mine from Boots

My DD went from breastfeeding to formula and at first would only take 4oz a feed so I was just making sure I offered her a bottle every couple of hours till I got to grips with how much formula she needed. She now at 7 months will never take more than 6oz three hourly during the day. I think they must be used to a smaller volume of breastmilk.
To answer your doidy cup question, DD thinks its for blowing bubbles in! Grin
