Cluster feeding or pacifying?

My LO is 3 days old (this is night 4). First two nights he fed about 3 times and settled in between. Last night he was pretty much on my boob from 9pm - 4am. He seems to be doing the same tonight.

My milk isn't in yet so I don't know how much he is actually getting and seems to doze off towards the end of each feed and never comes off the boob on his own. He will sometimes then wake up straight away and start rooting around again or he falls asleep but when I try to put him in his basket he wakes up and makes feeding cues, becoming more agitated til I get him back on a boob.

I guess I am looking for reassurance this is normal / do I just have to go with it until it calms down? Am slightly worried he is less interested in feeding than just using my nipple as a pacifier! Not sure what else I can do tho as he won't calm down unless on a boob...

Sounds entirely normal! Its still very early days and he wants to be with you. Feed him as much as you can and you will make enough milk. Seriously, feed feed feed. It's what he needs.

Sounds normal to me. My now 12 week DD fed constantly from birth on Friday night until my milk came in on Monday afternoon and then still every 2 hours at first. I just don't think colostrum is very filling.

Congratulations on your baby Smile
