FF 8 week old feeding every 1.5-2 hours!

I keep reading and being told that my DS should go longer between feeds, especially as he's on formula. I'm exhausted with he relentless might feeds. According to Aptamil he should be having 5 feeds a day at 6oz each. Instead he's having 8-10 at 3oz each (despite a lot of coaxing)! Any advice or tips?

No advice, just sympathy, my 16 week old is exactly the same, bottle cleaning and sterilising is relentless! And people said buying 12 bottles was too much, pahaha!

It's nice to know I'm not alone but oh no your still having the same at 16 weeks! Sleep is a distant memory! I have 12 bottles too...Wink

my 11 week old is exactly the same. She turns into a screaming monster for food every 1.5 hrs. So sick of it but I don't think it will change until she's on solids I'm afraid..

Yes my ds was the same, he'll take more as he gets older, this won't last long and he'll be guzzling huge bottles and sleeping for hours on end.

My 7 wo mixed fed ds clearly has a 3.5oz stomach. Any more and he throws it back up. Currently on feed 3 of the night, so sounds like it could be worse!

Sympathies.

Have you tried different teats (we're on 1's and 2's now but did notice a difference when we introduced the 2's)?

joanna0211marie · 25/09/2013 08:21

I've tried 1s 2s 3s and variflow! None made a difference, she's still gaining but my god I HATE washing up

AlmondFrangipani · 27/09/2013 19:25

We've tried size 2s which help a tiny bit but he's still averaging 9/10 3oz bottles a day. He chokes on variflows.

He should be taking more but I just don't know how to get him to take more!

Here are my tips. Feel free to ignore if I'm telling you stuff you've already tried. I don't want to come across as patronising, that's not my intention.
I have 17 week FF twins so have gone through literally hundreds of feeds now. They still feed on size 1 teats at 4m.

  1. Wind wind wind. If your baby starts to fuss at 2-3 oz, then stop and wind. Put baby over your shoulder and walk round bouncing or up and down stairs until they burp loudly. Don't stop until you get that burp! Then restart feeding and often they will then take a good volume more.
  2. If they fall asleep on the bottle, blow air gently on their face, or wiggle the teat round in their mouth- this often restarts suckling and then they take more volume.
  3. Take the recommended stuff on the side of the aptamil tub with a pinch of salt. At one point mine were taking 6oz 6-7 times a day, but not finishing the bottles, so there was always 1 oz or so of waste. We found it better to live with the small amount of waste, rather than making up smaller volumes and then having to remake another bottle when they still wanted more. Mine are only now 'fitting in' with the aptamil recommended volumes, i'e they're on 210 ml x 5 bottles per day.
